Drug Resistance Pattern Of Mycobacterium Tuberculosis In A Chest Diseases Hospital Of Armed Forces |
p. 56 |
J Jena, B. N Panda, S. K Nema, V. C Ohri, R. S Pahwa Drug susceptibility testing was carried out on all isolates of M. Tubercilosis, Sixty patients grow Mycobacterium Tuberculosis with in vitro resistance to various drugs out to 473 positive cultures (12.7%). Single drug resistance was commonest and observed in 38 out of 60 (63.3%) strains, double drug resistance in 15 (25%) and resistance to three or more drugs in seven (11.7%). Of 18 cases of relapse after short course chemotherapy, seven had drug resistant strains. All of these showed resistance of rifampicin. There was a small group of patients (ten) consisting of family members of soldiers, who showed drug resistant strains, of which six showed multidrug resistance. There were six resistant cases amongst a total of 33 patients of Tibetan origin, whereas there were three resistant cases amongst a total of 40 patients of Nepali origin. There was no significant statistical difference in occurrence of resistance amongst patients of Tibetan and Nepali origin when compared with each other (p>0.05). However, a significant difference in the occurrence of resistance amongst patients of Nepali/Tibetan origin and patients of Indian origin was found (p<0.05), with the incidence of resistance being higher in the former groups. |

Estimation Of Serum Adenosine Deaminase In Pulmonary Tuberculosis |
p. 67 |
K. B Gupta, H Lal, K. S Khokhar, B Raj, R Sen Serum Adenosine Deaminase level was determined in 50 cases of pulmonary tuberculosis. Mean serum ADA level 63.8 ± 10.03 U/L was found to be significantly higher as compared to extra pulmonary and non-tubercular cases, 32.8 ± 8.11 U/L, 16.78 ± 5.9 U/L. Therefore ADA level can be used as diagnostic marker with reasonable accuracy in suspected cases of pulmonary tuberculosis. |
