Role Of Glutathione-S-Transferase In Smoking Induced Lung Diseases |
p. 84 |
R Gupta, B Raj, J Saini, A. K Janmeja The present study was undertaken to study the status of glutathione-S-transferase (GST) in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) in patients of primary pulmonary malignancies and chronic bronchitis using fiberoptic bronchoscope. GST activity was estimated by Habig method in fifteen patients with primary pulmonary malignancy and fifteen patients with chronic bronchitis. Mean GST activity in BAL samples of cases of primary pulmonary malignancy was 0.207+0.1015 i.u./mg of proteins whereas it was only 0.0723 + 0.0156i.u./mg. of proteins in cases of chronic bronchitis. The mean GST activity in BAL samples of primary pulmonary malignancy was significantly higher as compared to chronic bronchitis (pc 0.001). More than 85% of the patients of primary pulmonary malignancy had GST activity more than 0.100 i.u./mg of proteins in their BAL samples whereas only in one patient (6.67%) of chronic bronchitis, GST activity was more than 0.101 i.u./mg of proteins. The GST activity in serum was very low with insignificant change in two groups and in different patients. |

Co-Existent Malignant Lymphoma And Tubercular Lymphadenitis - A Case Report |
p. 95 |
O. P Gupta, R Gupta, V. K Arora A case of 55 years man with tubercular Lymphadenitis and co-existent lymphoma is reported. Chronic inflammation of tuberculosis or specific drug exposure could be important factors in inducing p53 mutations or any other chromosomal abnormalities or oncogene production leading to lymphomagenesis. Though exact mechanism of the co-existence of both the diseases remain unknown, some genetic alteration linking the two seems to be the most favourable hypothesis. |
