| Pleural Fluid To Serum Bilirubin Ratio As A Diagnostic Aid In Tuberculous And Malignant Pleural Effusions S Rao February 1995, 13(1):20-21Pleural fluid bilirubin to serum bilirubin ratio was studied in a group of 30 patients of tuberculous and 25 cases of malignant effusions. It was found that there was a significant difference in values in the groups with values being lower in tuberculous effusions. (p<0.05). It is inferred that this index can be useful in some selected cases to differentiate tuberculous from malignant effusions. |

| Lung Capacities Of Thermal Power Plant Workers - A Spirometric Assessment B Raj, K. B Gupta, K Arora, T. R Dhawan February 1995, 13(1):7-11Three hundred and forty-two male workers of a thermal power plant were screened by spirometer. The mean FEV1, FVC and PEFR were found to be 2.33L. 2. 74L and 374 lit/min respectively, significantly lower than normal predicted values (p<0.001). The Parameters were found to be much reduced in smokers as compared to non-smokers. FVC and FEV1 were found to be much lower in coal unloading section (2.17L and 2.5IL) as compared to other sections. Spirometry was found to be an effective and simple screening method for detection of ventilatory impairment in exposed workers. |
